London : Printed for R. Bonwicke [and 8 others] and sold by J. Morphew, 1719-1730.
Joseph Pitton de Tournefort  (1656-1708) was the director of the Jardin des Plantes in Paris. He exploited the important period of first French colonial expansion and became one of the first and best known plant hunters. He travelled throughout western Europe by order of the King, and then was touring the Levant, Persia, Armenia, 1700 – 1702 and collected over 1,350 plant specimens.

Antoine du Pinet (d. 1584) condensed the work of the botanist P. A. Mattioli to produce one of the earliest pocket herbals. Plants are illustrated in woodcut and described briefly in five languages, including information on where the plant can be found, and what its "qualities" were.
