In the seventeenth century, Johann Conrad von Gemmingen, the Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt,   commissioned hundreds of flower paintings. Basilius Besler (the apothecary) organized the printing of the largest book of plant portraits ever published.
Today plant’s name: Fritillaria imperialis.
